Welcome to the Greenfield Police Department

The City of Greenfield is home to many retail businesses from large national chains to small intimate shops. The Greenfield Police Department encourages shoppers to use the following crime prevention tips in order to insure a safe shopping experience:

  • Never, under any circumstances leave your purse, wallet or checkbook in a shopping cart for any reason. Even if you think you will keep a good eye on it, experienced thieves can remove credit cards and charge thousands of dollars in merchandise before you even realize your card is missing. Purses and handbags should be kept closed and “on your person”. Wallets and checkbooks should be kept in a pocket or purse.
  • Maintain a close eye on your credit cards. Don’t feel rushed at the checkout line. Take the extra moment to insure that you have placed your credit card, change or checkbook into your purse and secured it before leaving the checkout area.
    • When walking to your car and while loading packages, be aware of your surroundings. Watch for vehicles or people waiting nearby.
    • Never leave your unsecured packages or running vehicle in order to return your cart to the store. Lock your vehicle after loading your packages before returning the cart.
    • If you have purchased a particularly expensive item, don’t be afraid to ask a store representative to walk you to your car.
