Chief Francis Springob announces the addition of three new police officers to the Greenfield Police Department. On February 23, 2009, City
Clerk Jennifer Goergen issued the oath of office to three police officer candidates in a ceremony at the Greenfield Law Enforcement Center.
- Officer David Vitek is 31 years old and grew up in Oak Creek. David is a graduate of Embry Riddle University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree
in Aeronautical Science. He previously served as a pilot with Skyway Airlines and is a graduate of the police science program at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha
- Officer Heath Pfiefer is 32 years old and a graduate of the police science program at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha where he earned an Associate
Degree. Heath previously worked in the construction trades.
- Officer Nicholas Scharbutt is 27 years old and a graduate of Milwaukee Area Technical College where he earned an Associate Degree in Police Science.
He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in the Iraq War.
Also in attendance at the Oath of Office Ceremony was Alderperson Don Almquist and Police Commissioner Nancy Kostecki.
These new officers will begin a three-week in-house-training period immediately. Following the in-house training, the new officers will be
required to complete the Greenfield Police Department’s five-month-long Field Training and Evaluation Program during which a veteran officer will train and evaluate each recruit officer on a daily basis.
“With the extensive training they receive, it takes almost a year before a new officer is actually out on the street as a fully functional member of the department,” said Captain Paul Schlecht who
manages the department’s field training program.
With the addition of these three officers, the department is now two officers short of full staffing levels.
