Report Crime Anonymously

On Monday, September 15, 2008 the Greenfield Police Department received information from an anonymous citizen through WeTip, identifying a specific individual and specific vehicle involved in the September 9^th hit and run of 12 year old Edwin Diaz.

Acting on that tip, Greenfield detectives located the 48 year old Milwaukee man at his south side residence and located his Red 1994 Dodge Caravan. The van was found to have damage consistent with that which could have been caused in the hit and run. Additional forensic evidence located at the scene of the crash appears to be linked to the van.

Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant and the van was seized earlier today. The van, along with other forensic evidence will be turned over to the State Crime lab for analysis. The search warrant is expected to be returned and filed with the court tomorrow.

The 48 year old Milwaukee man is not in custody but is considered a person of interest in this investigation.

The Greenfield Police Department would like to thank the many media outlets who publicized this crash and Edwin’s plight. We are confident that the wide publicity and publication of the WeTip national hotline led to the tip in this case.
